MicroRNA 3622b (MIR3622B, also known as hsa-mir-3622b) is a human microRNA—a small (19-25 nucleotides), endogenous, non-coding RNA—that regulates gene expression post-transcriptionally, usually via binding to the 3ʹ-untranslated regions (UTRs) of target messenger RNAs. MIR3622B is located at the chromosome locus 8p21, which is often altered in various cancers. Specifically, the 3p or 5p strands of miR-3622b have been implicated in tumor progression: miR-3622b-3p is upregulated and has an oncogenic function in prostate cancer, promoting proliferation, migration, and invasion through repression of p53 signaling networks, particularly by targeting AIFM2. Conversely, miR-3622b-5p exhibits tumor-suppressive properties in certain cancers, including ovarian and breast cancer, by inducing apoptosis and inhibiting cell migration (notably by targeting Bcl-xL, EGFR, LIMK1, and NOTCH1). As with other microRNAs, MIR3622B is not a classical therapeutic target (such as an enzyme or receptor); rather, it is a regulator of multiple gene networks with context-dependent effects—both oncogenic and tumor-suppressive—across cancer types[1][3][6][7].
