Overview

microRNA 3649 (MIR3649) is a human microRNA gene encoding a short non-coding RNA molecule that functions to regulate gene expression post-transcriptionally. Like other microRNAs, it is produced via canonical microRNA biogenesis involving cleavage by proteins such as Dicer and incorporation into the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), enabling it to bind and regulate target mRNAs predominantly through seed sequence complementarity[2][5][7]. While microRNAs in general play crucial roles in development, cell proliferation, apoptosis, and disease (including cancer and cardiovascular conditions), there is no evidence in current literature that MIR3649 is itself a therapeutic target, biomarker, or associated with specific diseases[1][2][3][5][7]. Its mention in databases appears to be largely categorical rather than functional. There is also no record of drug interactions or mechanisms of action directly involving MIR3649.

Mechanism of action

For microRNAs, the mechanism is binding to target mRNAs to cause mRNA degradation or translational repression. There are no drugs targeting MIR3649, so this category is not specifically applicable.

Biological functions

Regulation of gene expression by targeting messenger RNA (mRNA)Post-transcriptional gene silencing via binding to mRNA, resulting in degradation or repression of translationParticipation in intercellular signaling (particularly through extracellular vesicles and bodily fluids)
