microRNA 3657 (MIR3657) is a small (20-24 nucleotide) non-coding RNA gene located on chromosome 12 (chr12:112,475,403-112,475,519, reverse strand). As a member of the microRNA family, it is transcribed as a primary miRNA, then processed by Drosha and Dicer endonucleases into a mature miRNA, which is loaded into the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC). This complex binds target messenger RNAs through partial sequence complementarity, leading to inhibition of translation or destabilization of the target mRNA. miRNAs in general play crucial roles in fine-tuning gene expression networks and influence processes such as cell proliferation, apoptosis, and immune function. However, as of the current literature and database entries, MIR3657 has not been specifically implicated in a particular disease, pathway, or drug response.
