Overview

MicroRNA 3686 is a human non-coding RNA gene that produces a mature microRNA (miRNA) molecule through Drosha and Dicer-dependent biogenesis. Mature miRNAs are short (~20–24 nt) and function by joining the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC) to regulate gene expression post-transcriptionally, typically by base-pairing with the 3' UTR of target mRNAs and consequently inhibiting translation or promoting mRNA degradation. The gene is annotated in several genomic databases (HGNC:38887, NCBI Gene:100500839, Ensembl:ENSG00000263763, miRBase:hsa-mir-3686)[1]. While miRNAs are implicated in a broad range of developmental and disease-related processes, no specific function or disease link has been established in the current scientific literature for MIR3686. MicroRNAs are increasingly studied as biomarkers and therapeutic molecules but MIR3686 itself is not presently a recognized clinical target[1][3][5][6].
