Overview

MicroRNA 3688-1 (MIR3688-1) is a small, non-coding RNA (miRNA) of approximately 20-24 nucleotides. It belongs to a large family of miRNAs in humans that regulate gene expression by base pairing with messenger RNA (mRNA) targets within the cell, usually resulting in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. MIR3688-1 is formally recognized by key genomic resources (HGNC: 38986; NCBI Gene: 100500881; miRBase: hsa-mir-3688-1). The mature miRNA is produced from a stem-loop precursor after sequential processing by the Drosha and Dicer nucleases, and it is loaded into the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC) to perform its regulatory function. Disease associations have been made at the database annotation level for certain cardiovascular phenotypes, but there is minimal evidence for its direct mechanistic involvement in any disease. No known drugs, biomarker applications, or safety issues have been reported in the public domain for MIR3688-1[4][3]. Most published molecular and functional miRNA studies do not feature MIR3688-1 prominently; therefore, specific biological pathways, mechanisms, or intervention contexts remain poorly defined. MIR3688-1 is distinct from other miRNAs with similar nomenclature (such as MIR3648-1 or MIR3688-2)[1][7].
