MicroRNA 3689c (MIR3689C)

Target
MIR3689C
Molecular classification
MicroRNA, Non-coding RNA, RNA gene
01

Overview

MicroRNA 3689c is a human gene encoding a microRNA, a small non-coding RNA molecule that acts primarily as a post-transcriptional regulator by binding to complementary sequences in messenger RNA (mRNA), leading to translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. MicroRNAs are produced from distinct genes and undergo a specialized biogenesis pathway, generating mature 22-nucleotide RNAs that act as components of the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC). MIR3689C has been linked to vulva squamous cell carcinoma, although its specific role in this or other diseases has not been comprehensively characterized. Like other microRNAs, MIR3689C may participate in complex gene regulatory networks and has relevance to cancer if its expression is dysregulated, but no direct drug targeting or therapeutic applications have been reported for it to date.
