Overview

MicroRNA 3689d-1 (MIR3689D1) is a human microRNA gene encoding a small, single-stranded non-coding RNA molecule ~20–24 nucleotides long. MicroRNAs are evolutionarily conserved regulators of gene expression, typically acting at the post-transcriptional level to reduce the translation or stability of target mRNA transcripts. The biogenesis pathway of microRNAs includes the formation of a primary transcript (pri-miRNA), cleavage by the Drosha-DGCR8 microprocessor, nuclear export, cleavage by Dicer, and incorporation into the Argonaute (AGO) complex forming the miRNA-induced silencing complex (miRISC). Mature miRISC binds to partially complementary sites in the untranslated regions (primarily 3'UTRs) of messenger RNAs, usually resulting in translational inhibition or mRNA destabilization[1][2][3][4]. At present, there are no published gene targets, disease associations, or known mechanistic roles specific to microRNA 3689d-1. It is one of many human microRNAs cataloged based on sequence; its biological and clinical significance remains to be experimentally elucidated[4].
