MicroRNA 3690 is a short, single-stranded non-coding RNA of 20-24 nucleotides. It functions as a post-transcriptional regulator of gene expression by binding to the 3′ untranslated regions (UTRs) of target messenger RNAs, leading to translational repression or mRNA degradation. MIR3690 is upregulated in human thyroid cancer, where it acts as an oncogene by promoting cell proliferation, colony formation, and cell cycle progression through suppression of Dickkopf-related protein 3 (DKK3). Elevated levels of MIR3690 are associated with increased expression of cyclin E and c-myc, facilitating transition from G1 to S phase in the cell cycle. MIR3690 is being evaluated as a potential biomarker and therapeutic target in oncology.
