Overview

microRNA 3713 (miR-3713) is a member of the microRNA family—short, non-coding RNAs that regulate gene expression primarily via binding to complementary sequences within the 3′-UTR of target mRNAs, thereby inhibiting their translation[1][2]. miR-3713 has been shown to play a significant role in regulating bladder cancer cell invasiveness through its negative regulation of matrix metallopeptidase 9 (MMP9) protein, thereby impacting the progression and prognosis of transitional cell carcinoma (TCC)[2]. Lower miR-3713 expression is associated with increased MMP9 levels and poorer patient survival in TCC[2]. Manipulation of miR-3713 levels in vitro directly affects cancer cell invasion through MMP9 modulation, highlighting its emerging relevance as a disease biomarker and a candidate for future therapeutic targeting in bladder cancer[2]. Broader functions may exist consistent with general properties of microRNAs, including potential roles in other cancers, regulation of cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis[4][6][7]. Direct drug targeting of miR-3713 is not currently established.
