MicroRNA 376a-1 (miR-376a-1) is a small, non-coding regulatory RNA of approximately 20–24 nucleotides encoded on human chromosome 14q32.31[1][3]. It acts post-transcriptionally by binding to complementary sequences in the 3′ untranslated regions (UTRs) of target messenger RNAs (mRNAs), resulting in translational repression or mRNA degradation[3]. miR-376a-1 plays major roles in controlling cellular growth, invasion, cell cycle, and apoptosis, particularly in cancer cells. In glioblastoma multiforme, miR-376a functions as a tumor suppressor by directly targeting the transcription factor specificity protein 1 (SP1), thereby inhibiting cell proliferation and invasion[1][2]. In other cancer types, its expression and function may shift, either suppressing or promoting tumorigenic processes depending on the cellular context and target gene complement. As such, miR-376a-1 is of considerable interest as both a biomarker and a potential therapeutic target in oncology[1][2][3].
