Overview

MicroRNA 3916 (MIR3916) is a small, non-coding RNA molecule belonging to the microRNA (miRNA) class, approximately 20-24 nucleotides in length, that regulates gene expression at the post-transcriptional level by binding to complementary sequences in target messenger RNAs (mRNAs), resulting in translational inhibition or mRNA destabilization. MIR3916, like other miRNAs, is processed from a longer primary transcript through the action of the Drosha and Dicer enzymes. It is associated with several biological pathways, including those relevant to cancer progression, such as cell migration and proliferation, and has been specifically implicated in the biology of certain cancers (e.g., malignant conjunctival melanoma, breast cancer). There is no evidence that MIR3916 is currently a direct drug target or used as a biomarker in clinical practice.
