Overview

MicroRNA 3923 (miR-3923, hsa-miR-3923) is a small (~22 nucleotides) non-coding RNA molecule of the microRNA family, found in Homo sapiens. Like other microRNAs, it mediates post-transcriptional repression of gene expression by binding to complementary target sequences—primarily within messenger RNAs—leading to translation inhibition or mRNA degradation[1]. miR-3923 has been studied in the context of gastric carcinoma, where its expression is upregulated in tumor tissue and associates with more advanced disease (N stage, histologic grade) and poorer patient survival[2][6]. The gene network regulated by miR-3923 in gastric cancer includes at least 66–69 tightly associated genes identified via integrated genomic and bioinformatic analyses[2][6]. miR-3923 can regulate cellular behaviors such as invasion, metastasis, apoptosis, autophagy, and EMT, reflecting typical microRNA involvement in cancer biology[2]. Its promise as a clinical biomarker is primarily for prognosis in gastric carcinoma but is also being investigated in other cancers. No approved drugs currently target miR-3923 directly. Therapeutic strategies involving miRNA modulation face challenges such as specificity, efficient delivery, and the risk of widespread gene network disruption.
