Overview

microRNA 3937 (miR-3937, hsa-mir-3937) is a small, non-coding RNA molecule classified as a microRNA. MicroRNAs are key regulators of gene expression, acting post-transcriptionally by binding to target messenger RNAs (mRNAs) and inhibiting their translation or promoting their degradation[1][7]. miR-3937 is found in human plasma and has been identified as significantly associated with alcohol consumption; its levels also appear to mediate the relationship between alcohol intake and liver function or fatty liver disease. Its exact molecular targets and mechanistic roles remain to be fully elucidated, but microRNAs of this type often participate in fine-tuning cell signaling pathways and responses to physiological stresses[4][1]. There are no known therapeutics that specifically target miR-3937, and current data support its emerging value as a biomarker rather than a classical drug target or receptor.
