MicroRNA 4273 (MIR4273, also known as hsa-mir-4273 or miR-4273-5p) is a small, non-coding RNA molecule identified in humans. It belongs to the microRNA (miRNA) family, which regulates gene expression by binding to target mRNAs, usually resulting in translational repression or degradation. MIR4273 has been studied in the context of cancer, particularly colorectal cancer, where it specifically interacts with the A allele of the rs7930 SNP in the 3′ untranslated region of the TOMM20 gene, leading to reduced TOMM20 expression. The G allele at rs7930 does not interact with MIR4273 and has been associated with an increased risk of colorectal cancer. MIR4273 currently serves as a component of genetic risk biomarkers rather than a direct therapeutic target.
MIR4273 acts by binding to specific mRNA sequences (e.g., at SNP sites such as rs7930 in the 3′UTR of TOMM20), resulting in suppression of target gene expression at the post-transcriptional level
