Overview

MicroRNA 4293 (miR-4293) is a small, non-coding RNA molecule that regulates gene expression by binding to the 3′ untranslated regions (UTRs) of target mRNAs, leading to their degradation or inhibition of translation. miR-4293 has been shown to be significantly upregulated in non-small cell lung carcinoma tissue and cell lines, promoting tumor cell proliferation, migration, and metastasis while suppressing apoptosis. Mechanistically, miR-4293 targets and downregulates the mRNA-decapping enzyme DCP2, which in turn affects the stability of long non-coding RNA WFDC21P. This leads to the increased expression of WFDC21P and activation of the STAT3 signaling pathway. The oncogenic activity of miR-4293 in lung cancer is mediated through this axis. miR-4293 is considered a potential diagnostic and therapeutic target for certain cancers, but there are currently no approved drugs that directly interact with it.
