MicroRNA 4298 (MIR4298) is a small, non-coding RNA gene belonging to the miRNA class. Like other microRNAs, it regulates gene expression by binding to target mRNAs, primarily resulting in translation inhibition or destabilization of the target through the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC). miRNAs, including MIR4298, play roles in regulating many fundamental cellular processes, such as development, differentiation, proliferation, and apoptosis. Dysregulation of miRNAs has been implicated in a variety of human diseases—including cancer, with MIR4298's aberrant expression being associated specifically with acute myeloid leukemia with MLL rearrangement. The precise biological functions and disease mechanisms for MIR4298, as distinct from other miRNAs, remain incompletely characterized in current literature.
Gene silencing via base pairing with 3'UTR of target mRNAs, leading to mRNA degradation or translational suppression. Incorporated into RISC complex to mediate effects.
