MicroRNA 4299 is a small non-coding RNA, approximately 22 nucleotides in length, that regulates gene expression post-transcriptionally. It functions by binding to complementary sequences in messenger RNA (mRNA), leading to mRNA degradation or translational repression. miR-4299 acts as a tumor suppressor in non-small cell lung cancer by modulating the PTEN/AKT/PI3K signaling pathway, inhibiting cell proliferation, migration, and invasion; lower expression of miR-4299 correlates with more aggressive disease and poor prognosis[2]. MicroRNAs are implicated broadly in biological processes and diseases such as cancer, neurodegeneration, and immune regulation, making them valuable as both therapeutic targets and biomarkers[1][5].
