Overview

MicroRNA 4316 (miR-4316, MIR4316, hsa-mir-4316) is a small non-coding RNA molecule in the microRNA (miRNA) family, primarily implicated in the regulation of gene expression at the post-transcriptional level[4][5]. Like other miRNAs, miR-4316 forms part of an endogenous RNA interference mechanism, binding to the 3'-untranslated regions (3' UTRs) of target messenger RNAs to control their translation and/or stability[4][5][6]. miR-4316 is downregulated in certain cancer types, notably gastric cancer, where it functions as a tumor suppressor by targeting the mRNA of vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A) and the proto-oncogene c-Met[1][2]. Its inhibition of VEGF-A suppresses cancer cell proliferation, migration, and colony formation, contributing to the blockade of angiogenesis and tumor progression in gastric cancer models[1][2]. Consequently, miR-4316 is under investigation as a potential therapeutic target and biomarker in oncology, particularly for gastrointestinal cancers[1][2]. As with all genetic and RNA-based interventions targeting microRNAs, safety concerns relate to unintended effects on non-target RNAs and the complex regulatory networks influenced by miRNAs[5][6]. No reported drugs or small molecules are currently known to directly target miR-4316, nor are there well-defined mechanisms of action for such interventions.
