Overview

MicroRNA 4318 (MIR4318, hsa-mir-4318) is a small, non-coding RNA molecule classified as a human microRNA. Like other microRNAs, MIR4318 functions by binding to target messenger RNA (mRNA) sequences, typically resulting in gene silencing through translational repression or mRNA degradation[1][2][5]. These molecules are crucial regulators of gene expression and are involved in multiple cellular processes such as cell proliferation, apoptosis, and development[1][2][5]. MIR4318 has been identified in comprehensive microRNA profiling studies and, according to pathway and biomarker analysis, may be functionally associated with the development and progression of certain cancers, particularly colorectal cancer, and gastrointestinal disease[3]. However, as of now, there are no approved drugs known to interact directly with MIR4318, and it is not classified as a canonical "therapeutic target" like receptors or enzymes. Current research considers MIR4318 one of several microRNAs with potential utility as a circulating biomarker to aid in cancer diagnostics and monitoring[3].
