Overview

microRNA 4324 (miR-4324) is a small non-coding RNA belonging to the microRNA (miRNA) family that functions as a post-transcriptional regulator of gene expression, primarily by binding to complementary sequences in target mRNA transcripts, leading to their degradation or translational repression. miR-4324 is downregulated in several human cancers, including esophageal squamous-cell carcinoma and colorectal cancer[1][2]. In ESCC, decreased miR-4324 expression is associated with increased invasion, migration, and epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT), largely via its direct targeting and downregulation of focal adhesion kinase (FAK)[1]. In colorectal cancer, miR-4324 directly targets and suppresses homeobox B2 (HOXB2), inhibiting cell proliferation, migration, and invasion[2]. Its reduced expression in tumors and its impact on cancer cell behavior suggest a tumor suppressor role and potential utility as a prognostic biomarker[1][2]. At this time, miR-4324 itself is not considered a direct therapeutic target analogous to protein receptors, enzymes, or transporters, and no drugs are known to directly target or modulate miR-4324.
