MicroRNA 4422 (miR-4422)

Target
miR-4422
Molecular classification
MicroRNA (miRNA), Non-coding RNA
01

Overview

MicroRNA 4422 is a small, non-coding RNA molecule found in humans, classified as a microRNA (miRNA). miR-4422-5p acts as a post-transcriptional regulator, suppressing the expression of BACE1 and GSAP—enzymes central to amyloid precursor protein cleavage—in vitro, thus implicating it as a putative biomarker and therapeutic candidate for Alzheimer’s disease. Like other miRNAs, it exerts its function through sequence-specific binding to target messenger RNAs, resulting in translational repression or mRNA degradation. No direct drug interactions have been documented; miR-4422 is not associated with established pharmacological agents, but synthetic mimics/inhibitors are tools for mechanistic studies. Broader roles in other diseases or biological processes are currently undocumented in publicly available biomedical literature.
