microRNA 4425 (miR-4425)

Target
miR-4425
Molecular classification
microRNA, Non-coding RNA

Overview

MicroRNA 4425 is a non-coding RNA molecule classified as a microRNA. In humans, microRNAs are typically 20–24 nucleotides in length, transcribed from DNA but not translated into protein. Instead, they bind target messenger RNAs at partially complementary sites—usually in the 3' untranslated regions—and downregulate gene expression by promoting mRNA degradation or inhibiting translation initiation. MicroRNAs are implicated in the fine tuning of protein outputs, cell differentiation, proliferation, and robustness against environmental perturbations. Their abnormal regulation is widely associated with disease, especially cancer and metabolic disorders. Individual microRNAs may be leveraged as diagnostic markers or therapeutic targets, but specific disease roles for miR-4425 itself are currently undefined in the literature.
