Overview

MicroRNA-4429 (miR-4429) is a small, non-coding RNA molecule that functions in the negative regulation of gene expression by binding to the 3’ untranslated region (3’-UTR) of specific target mRNAs, affecting their stability and translation. It has been shown to directly bind to and negatively regulate EGFR (epidermal growth factor receptor) mRNA in non-small cell lung cancer, where its downregulation is associated with increased EGFR expression, tumor progression, larger tumor size, EGFR mutation, lymph node metastasis, and advanced stage. Reduced levels of miR-4429 have also been observed in other malignancies, including ovarian, cervical, and gastric cancers. In clinical studies, decreased serum miR-4429 in NSCLC patients had high diagnostic value for distinguishing cases from healthy individuals and served as an independent prognostic indicator of survival. miR-4429 is not a therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or transcription factor, but rather acts as a regulatory RNA and a disease biomarker[1].
