MicroRNA 4442 (miR-4442) is a short, non-coding RNA molecule that functions in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression, most commonly through binding to target mRNA and inhibiting its translation or promoting degradation. miR-4442 has been identified as a candidate biomarker for early recurrence in colorectal cancer (CRC), with higher plasma levels correlated with an increased risk of metastatic recurrence, particularly to the liver. Functionally, miR-4442 promotes cell proliferation, migration, and invasion in CRC through suppression of tumor suppressor RBMS1 and the regulation of proteins associated with EMT, such as E-cadherin, N-cadherin, and Snail1. Elevated miR-4442 is also discussed in the context of autoimmune disorders and other epithelial cell processes, although its molecular functions remain only partly understood. Targeted inhibition of miR-4442 has been proposed as a potential therapeutic strategy to prevent CRC recurrence and metastasis[1][2].
