MicroRNA 4448 (miR-4448)

Target
miR-4448
Molecular classification
MicroRNA, Non-coding RNA
01

Overview

MicroRNA 4448 (miR-4448) is a small, single-stranded non-coding RNA, typically 20–24 nucleotides long, naturally produced from a precursor hairpin structure via DROSHA and DICER processing[1]. Like other microRNAs, it regulates gene expression by guiding the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC) to specific mRNA targets for repression. In mosquito species, miR-4448 has been shown to directly target the mRNA for CYP4H31, a member of the cytochrome P450 family, therefore modulating resistance to the insecticide deltamethrin[2]. Its role in human physiology or pathology remains largely uncharacterized in current literature.

02

Mechanism of action

RNA interference—miR-4448 binds to target mRNAs (such as CYP4H31 in mosquitoes) and suppresses their translation or promotes their degradation[2].

03

Biological functions

Gene regulation (post-transcriptional silencing of target mRNAs), may be involved in various biological processes depending on cellular context[1][2]
04

Disease associations

In mosquitoes, miR-4448 modulates resistance to the insecticide deltamethrin by post-transcriptionally regulating CYP4H31[2]. There is currently no established role for human miR-4448 in cancer, inflammation, nervous system, or cardiovascular diseases according to available sources[2].
05

Safety considerations

No available information for safety concerns or therapeutic challenges regarding miR-4448 targeting; in mosquito research, modulation of miR-4448 affects insecticide sensitivity, but safety for humans is not described[2].
06

Interacting drugs

Experimental miR-4448 mimics or inhibitors (used in insect studies, e.g., to reverse insecticide resistance in mosquitoes[2]); no approved drugs or clinical candidates targeting human miR-4448 are reported[2].
07

Biomarkers

None established for human diseases or patient selection
