MicroRNA 4449 (miR-4449) is a human microRNA, a small non-coding RNA molecule involved in the post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression. miR-4449 is significantly upregulated in colorectal cancer tissues and cell lines compared with normal counterparts. Functionally, miR-4449 promotes tumor cell proliferation and suppresses apoptosis by activating the STAT3 signaling pathway, in part by repressing SOCS3, a negative regulator of STAT3. Downregulation of miR-4449 in cancer cells reduces STAT3 pathway activity and increases expression of genes associated with apoptosis. miR-4449 is thus considered a potential therapeutic target and a promising biomarker for tumor progression, particularly in colorectal cancer, but might also have roles in other malignancies such as multiple myeloma and lung cancer[1][3][4].
