It is upregulated in highly metastatic breast cancer and correlates with larger tumor size and advanced disease stage. miR-4472-1 promotes cancer cell proliferation and metastasis primarily by directly targeting and downregulating Repulsive guidance molecule A (RGMA), a known suppressor of metastasis. This downregulation induces the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition program by suppressing E-cadherin and initiating the expression of mesenchymal markers such as vimentin, β-catenin, and Slug[1]. miR-4472-1 is part of the broader microRNA family, which are pivotal post-transcriptional gene regulators impacting diverse biological and pathological processes, including cancer[2][3]. Its expression serves as a potential biomarker for cancer aggressiveness and therapeutic resistance in breast cancer[1].
