MicroRNA 4472-2 (MIR4472-2)

Target
MIR4472-2
Molecular classification
Non-coding RNA, microRNA, Small RNA regulator
01

Overview

MicroRNA 4472-2 (MIR4472-2) is a short, non-coding RNA molecule involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression. MIR4472-2 is upregulated in highly metastatic breast cancer, where it promotes tumor growth, invasiveness, and chemoresistance by downregulating genes such as RGMA (Repulsive Guidance Molecule A), which acts as a tumor suppressor. By targeting RGMA and inducing epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT), MIR4472-2 contributes to cancer cell migration and metastasis. As a microRNA, its main mode of action is incorporation into the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), guiding the complex to complementary target mRNAs to suppress their expression. Its expression profile and functional roles nominate MIR4472-2 as both a possible biomarker and a candidate therapeutic target in oncology, although further research is needed for clinical applications.
