Target
miR-4478
Molecular classification
microRNA, non-coding RNA, RNA regulator
01

Overview

microRNA 4478 (miR-4478) is a small non-coding RNA molecule that regulates gene expression at the post-transcriptional level by binding to the 3′ untranslated region (UTR) of specific mRNAs, leading to their degradation or translational repression. In ovarian cancer, miR-4478 is typically downregulated and its reduced expression is associated with poor prognosis and increased resistance to radiation therapy. miR-4478 promotes radiosensitivity in ovarian cancer cells, at least partly by targeting the FUS gene (fused in sarcoma), which is involved in DNA damage repair and autophagy. Modulation of miR-4478 levels has been shown experimentally to alter cancer cell proliferation and response to irradiation, suggesting its potential as a therapeutic target and prognostic biomarker in oncology[1].
