microRNA 4484 (miR-4484) is a non-coding RNA molecule consisting of 83 nucleotides, situated on chromosome 10q26.2. It is strongly upregulated in the serum of patients with systemic sclerosis and has roles in regulating fibrosis-related genes, including those involved in collagen synthesis, metalloproteinase activity, and the TGF-β and Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathways. miR-4484 is implicated in both rheumatologic and oncologic disease processes as a post-transcriptional regulator, with suggested utility as a disease biomarker—with ongoing research into its full functional and clinical relevance[1][2].
Not applicable for traditional drugs. For oligonucleotide-based therapeutics, the mechanism would be antisense inhibition or miRNA mimic/antagomir action to alter gene expression pathways
