MicroRNA 4485 is a short, single-stranded, non-coding RNA (miRNA) belonging to the class of microRNAs, which serve as post-transcriptional regulators by targeting mRNAs, ultimately modulating their stability and translation[3]. MiR-4485 is transcribed by RNA polymerase II, processed by Drosha and Dicer, and loaded onto the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC)[3]. Functional studies suggest that miR-4485 impacts mitochondrial function by binding mitochondrial 16S rRNA, influencing mitochondrial RNA processing, ATP production, ROS levels, and apoptosis. It is implicated as a tumor suppressor in breast cancer through suppression of glycolytic gene expression and as a potential oncogenic driver in CLL, where its upregulation promotes B cell leukemia cell proliferation and survival by modulating TGR5 expression and ERK1/2 pathway signaling[1][2]. Therapeutic modulation (mimics/inhibitors) of miR-4485 is experimentally possible but there are no approved drugs currently targeting it in patients.
Not applicable for direct drug targeting; however, experimental miRNA mimics and inhibitors (antagomirs) can modulate its activity in cellular systems[2].
