Overview

MicroRNA 4486 (miR-4486) is a human microRNA, a short non-coding RNA molecule (20–24 nucleotides) involved in the post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression; it functions by binding target mRNAs, resulting in either translational inhibition or mRNA degradation through the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC)[1][3]. MiR-4486, like other microRNAs, plays key roles in processes such as cell proliferation, apoptosis, and oncogenesis[6][5]. In glioma, miR-4486 acts as a tumor suppressor and is regulated by the long non-coding RNA SNHG20, which modulates the MDM2-p53 pathway by sponging miR-4486[5]. MicroRNAs, including miR-4486, are not conventional "drug targets" such as receptors or enzymes, but rather regulators of gene expression. They are increasingly being studied for their role in disease mechanisms, prognosis, and as therapeutic targets via miRNA mimics or inhibitors, but direct drug interactions are not established for miR-4486 specifically[3][8]. miR-4486 is associated with regulation of the p53 tumor suppressor pathway in glioma, thus connecting it mechanistically to cancer biology[5]. If further detail on druggability or specific clinical trials emerges, this should be updated, but current evidence does not support categorization of miR-4486 as a classical therapeutic target[1][5][3].
