Overview

MicroRNA 4491 is a human microRNA (miRNA), a short non-coding RNA molecule that post-transcriptionally regulates gene expression by targeting messenger RNA (mRNA), resulting in translational repression or mRNA degradation. miR-4491 has been reported as upregulated in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) tissues and cell lines, where it promotes cell proliferation and inhibits apoptosis through direct targeting and suppression of the tumor suppressor gene TRIM7. Its downregulation in NSCLC models leads to inhibited cell proliferation and increased apoptosis, partly via modulation of NF-κB signaling. miR-4491 is also dysregulated in other disease contexts, including ischemic stroke (downregulated), gastric cancer (upregulated), and chronic heart failure (upregulated), suggesting a broader role in disease biology. Its role as a direct therapeutic target is not established, but it has potential as a biomarker in cancer and other diseases[1][2].
