Overview

MicroRNA 4497 (miR-4497) is a small non-coding RNA molecule involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression by binding to complementary sequences on mRNA targets, leading to translational repression or mRNA degradation. In disease contexts, miR-4497 is notably downregulated in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and several pediatric allergic diseases, including atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis, and bronchial asthma[1][2]. Lower expression of miR-4497 is associated with tumor malignancy and poor prognosis in NSCLC, and its circulating exosomal form has demonstrated high diagnostic and prognostic accuracy as a non-invasive biomarker for this cancer. In addition, target gene analyses implicate miR-4497 in various cellular pathways relevant to immune and inflammatory responses. There are no known drugs that directly target miR-4497, and it is not classified as a traditional therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter, but it is emerging as a promising biomarker for both cancer and allergic disease monitoring[1][2].
