microRNA-4500 (miR-4500) is a small, non-coding RNA of approximately 21–23 nucleotides that regulates gene expression post-transcriptionally by binding to target messenger RNAs (mRNAs) and promoting their degradation or inhibiting their translation[2][4]. miR-4500 is downregulated in several cancers, including non-small cell lung cancer, breast cancer, and colorectal cancer[1][3]. It functions primarily as a tumor suppressor, inhibiting cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and angiogenesis, and promoting apoptosis by targeting genes such as STAT3, RRM2, NRAS, and LIN28B[1][3]. miR-4500 regulates key cellular pathways, including the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway and signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) signaling. Because of its ability to inhibit multiple oncogenic pathways, miR-4500 is under exploration as a potential therapeutic target and a biomarker for cancer prognosis and monitoring. However, as with other microRNAs, its therapeutic manipulation is complicated by issues of specificity and delivery.
