microRNA 450a-1 (MIR450A1 (miR-450a-1))

Target
MIR450A1 (miR-450a-1)
Molecular classification
microRNA, non-coding RNA
01

Overview

microRNA 450a-1 is a human small non-coding RNA gene that codes for a microRNA known for its tumor-suppressive properties in various cancer types. It exerts its biological effects primarily by binding complementary sequences in target mRNAs, leading to their silencing. In lung cancer, miR-450a-1 inhibits cell proliferation and invasion by directly targeting and downregulating IRF2, while in breast carcinoma, it targets CREB1 to suppress oncogenic signaling and cancer stem cell properties. Its role in embryonic development and other physiological processes is increasingly recognized, making it a subject of interest for both disease biomarker development and future therapeutic strategies.

Mechanism of action

Gene regulation via sequence-specific binding to complementary mRNA (3' UTR), causing mRNA degradation or translational repression. Suppression of specific oncogenic targets such as IRF2 (Interferon regulatory factor 2) and CREB1 (cAMP response element-binding protein 1).
