MicroRNA 451b (MIR451B) is a short, single-stranded non-coding RNA molecule of approximately 22 nucleotides that belongs to the microRNA family. Located within the miR-144/451 cluster on chromosome 17q11.2, MIR451B is processed via the canonical microRNA biogenesis pathway involving both Drosha and Dicer. MicroRNAs function by incorporating into the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC) and binding to the 3′ untranslated regions of target messenger RNAs (mRNAs), leading to their translational repression or degradation. The miR-144/451 cluster, which also includes miR-144 and miR-451a, is highly conserved and is implicated in the regulation of diverse physiological processes including inflammation and cancer, primarily through post-transcriptional gene suppression. While miR-451a's biological and disease roles have been investigated in detail, the specific functions and regulatory targets of MIR451B remain underexplored. Its unique sequence relative to miR-451a suggests potentially distinct biological roles and target specificity, but direct mechanistic and clinical evidence for MIR451B is currently limited[1][3].
