MicroRNA 4524a (MIR4524A) is a short (20–24 nucleotides) non-coding RNA, part of the microRNA class[3]. It is transcribed in humans as a precursor hairpin structure that is cleaved by Drosha and Dicer to yield the mature miRNA, which is then loaded into the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC)[1][5][3]. MicroRNAs function by base-pairing with messenger RNAs to regulate gene expression, usually leading to translational repression or mRNA degradation[1][5]. For MIR4524A, specific biological targets and mechanisms remain uncharacterized, and its physiological role and disease relevance beyond a single report associating it with immature cataract are unknown[3]. There are currently no known drugs targeting MIR4524A, it is not a validated clinical biomarker, and it is not established as a safety or therapeutic concern.
Not applicable for MIR4524A; general microRNA mechanisms involve incorporation into the RISC complex for mRNA silencing.
