MicroRNA 4524b (miR-4524b, hsa-miR-4524b) is a member of the microRNA family of small, non-coding RNAs that regulate gene expression post-transcriptionally, primarily by binding to the 3’-untranslated regions of specific messenger RNAs. MiR-4524b-5p has been shown to be upregulated in relapsed cervical cancer, where it directly targets the tumor suppressor gene WTX, leading to enhanced migration and invasion of cancer cells via modulation of the WTX/β-catenin axis, a pathway important in cell proliferation and metastatic potential. While not yet an approved therapeutic target, miR-4524b holds interest as a potential biomarker and future therapeutic target in cancer biology, particularly for disease states showing dysregulation of the WTX/β-catenin pathway. No drug therapies currently target miR-4524b directly in the clinic[2][4][6].
