Overview

MicroRNA-4525 (miR-4525) is a small non-coding RNA (microRNA) molecule found in humans (hsa-miR-4525) that regulates gene expression primarily through post-transcriptional silencing mechanisms typical for microRNAs[2][3]. miR-4525 has been identified as significantly upregulated in the serum extracellular vesicles and tumor tissue of patients with advanced renal cell carcinoma, suggesting its potential as a diagnostic biomarker for this cancer type[1]. Its direct biological targets may include proteins such as albumin and alpha fetoprotein, though functional studies remain limited and its mechanistic role is still not fully defined[1]. In addition to kidney cancer, altered miR-4525 levels have been reported in other disease contexts, such as pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (elevated in plasma EVs of high-risk patients) and acute myocardial infarction (reduced in circulation)[1], but no drugs are known to directly target miR-4525, and no confirmed safety concerns or therapeutic strategies currently exist regarding this miRNA.
