Overview

microRNA 4535 (miR-4535 or hsa-miR-4535) is a short, non-coding RNA molecule belonging to the class of microRNAs, which are typically 20-24 nucleotides in length and serve as post-transcriptional regulators of gene expression in multicellular organisms by binding to complementary sequences in target messenger RNAs (mRNAs) and inhibiting their translation or promoting their degradation[2][5][6]. miR-4535 is encoded in the human genome (Homo sapiens) and has been identified as an intronic microRNA with no other family members and is found only in humans[1]. The current literature reports that increased levels of miR-4535 in both amniotic fluid and maternal serum are associated with severe chorioamnionitis, a serious perinatal infection characterized by inflammation of the fetal membranes[1]. As such, miR-4535 is considered a promising biomarker for the diagnosis of severe chorioamnionitis and as a positive indicator for fetal inflammatory response. There is limited information on the endogenous targets and functional roles of miR-4535, though some predicted mRNA targets involved in inflammation and cellular repair processes include CD44, KDM1B, and FKBP4[1]. There are no established drug interactions or safety concerns relating to miR-4535, and it is not currently considered a therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or direct drug target[1][2][6].
