Overview

MicroRNA 4640 (MIR4640) is a human microRNA gene that encodes a short, non-coding RNA belonging to the miRNA class[1]. MicroRNAs are typically 20–24 nucleotides in length and are involved in the post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression by binding to complementary sequences in the 3’ untranslated regions (3’ UTRs) of target messenger RNAs (mRNAs), leading to mRNA destabilization or translational repression[1][3][4]. MIR4640 is associated with regulatory roles in a variety of cellular processes, such as cell proliferation, differentiation, and survival, and is implicated in diseases like asymptomatic dengue infection and lung non-small cell carcinoma[1]. As with other miRNAs, MIR4640 is not considered a conventional therapeutic target such as a receptor or enzyme but may serve as a molecular biomarker or regulator in specific pathophysiologic contexts[1][2][3][4].
