Overview

MicroRNA 4644 (miR-4644) is a small non-coding RNA molecule belonging to the microRNA family, which functions as a post-transcriptional regulator of gene expression[2][3]. In human biology, miR-4644 is upregulated in plasma exosomes of bladder cancer patients and acts as a pro-tumorigenic miRNA by downregulating its target gene UBIAD1, a tumor suppressor, thereby promoting cell proliferation, invasion, and migration in bladder cancer cells[2]. Its differential expression in cancer makes it a candidate biomarker for diagnosis and prognosis. As a microRNA, it does not encode a protein but regulates the translation and degradation of specific messenger RNAs[3].
