Overview

MicroRNA 4654 (MIR4654) is a short (~22 nucleotide) endogenous non-coding RNA involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in humans. Like other miRNAs, MIR4654 is transcribed by RNA polymerase II, processed by Drosha and Dicer nucleases, and incorporated into the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), enabling it to bind complementary sequences on target mRNAs. This binding commonly results in translational inhibition or mRNA destabilization, contributing to the fine-tuning of protein output and maintaining biological robustness in cellular processes[3][5][6]. While miRNAs broadly are active in diverse cellular functions such as differentiation, proliferation, and apoptosis[1][2], there is currently no published functional or disease-specific data unique to MIR4654. MiRNAs may also participate in nuclear chromatin remodeling, alternative splicing, transcriptional regulation, and cell-cell communication through their extracellular transport[1][4][5][7]. The regulatory role of MIR4654, like other microRNAs, may be broad and context-dependent, but its function remains largely uncharacterized in current literature.
