Overview

microRNA 4655 (miR-4655, hsa-miR-4655) is a member of the microRNA family, a class of small non-coding RNAs that regulate gene expression at the post-transcriptional level by binding to complementary sequences in target messenger RNAs, leading to mRNA degradation or translational inhibition[7][8][6]. microRNAs (miRNAs) play critical regulatory roles in many biological processes—including cell development, differentiation, proliferation, and apoptosis—and have been implicated in cancer and other diseases[6][7][3]. However, there is no evidence in current scientific literature or databases (as of 2025) that miR-4655 is a validated or characterized therapeutic target, nor are there reports of any approved drugs or clinical candidates directly targeting miR-4655, or its established utility as a biomarker. The available information on miR-4655 is extremely limited; it is an annotated miRNA in the human genome with unknown or unproven direct functional or disease relevance (unlike well-studied miRNAs such as miR-21 or miR-155)[3][7]. This lack of data indicates that miR-4655 is likely not a misnamed molecule, but is very poorly characterized, unvalidated, and not currently considered a canonical therapeutic target.
