MicroRNA 4656 (miR-4656, hsa-miR-4656, MIR4656) is a small non-coding RNA classified as a microRNA. Like other microRNAs, miR-4656 functions in post-transcriptional silencing of gene expression by binding to target mRNAs, leading to repression of translation or mRNA degradation[3][5]. In pancreatic cancer, miR-4656 expression is frequently downregulated, and increased levels of miR-4656 can inhibit cancer cell proliferation and invasion both in vitro and in vivo. Mechanistically, miR-4656 has been shown to target and negatively regulate the TrkA gene, and its overexpression reverses TrkA-induced malignancy phenotypes in pancreatic cancer cells, identifying miR-4656 as a tumor suppressor and potential prognostic biomarker in this context[1]. As a member of the microRNA family, miR-4656 does not encode a protein and is not a classical drug target such as a receptor or enzyme; its therapeutic and biomarker roles are primarily investigational.
