Overview

MicroRNA 4659b (MIR4659B, hsa-mir-4659b) is a short (20-24 nucleotides) non-coding RNA molecule classified as a microRNA. As with other microRNAs, MIR4659B functions primarily in the post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms. MicroRNAs are produced through a multi-step process involving the cleavage of precursor transcripts by Drosha and Dicer enzymes to yield a mature miRNA, which is loaded into the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC). Through imperfect base pairing with target mRNAs, MIR4659B and related miRNAs generally inhibit the translation or promote the degradation of the mRNA targets, thus modulating protein synthesis levels for specific genes[1][5][6]. MicroRNAs are broadly involved in a variety of fundamental processes, but there is currently no published evidence linking microRNA 4659b specifically to a therapeutic target, drug interactions, disease associations, or direct use as a biomarker. This entry is an example of a non-coding regulatory RNA, not a classical therapeutic target like a receptor or enzyme[1].
