MicroRNA 4660 (MIR4660) is a small non-coding RNA molecule (approximately 20–24 nucleotides in length), classified as a microRNA, that mediates post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression by binding to complementary sequences on protein-coding messenger RNAs (mRNAs), resulting in translational inhibition or mRNA degradation[3]. MIR4660 has been implicated in suppression of cell invasion and metastasis in cancers such as osteosarcoma by targeting specific genes such as MAFG[1]. Like other miRNAs, it is transcribed as part of a primary transcript, processed by Drosha and Dicer ribonucleases, and incorporated into the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC)[3]. MIR4660 is not a classical drug target (e.g., receptor or enzyme) but may be modulated experimentally via miRNA mimics[7]. There are no current drug products or clinical biomarker applications associated specifically with MIR4660. Its dysfunction or dysregulation could contribute to disease processes, especially malignancies[1][3].
