Overview

MicroRNA 4678 is a member of the microRNA family—short, non-coding RNAs (typically 20–24 nucleotides) that regulate gene expression by targeting messenger RNAs (mRNAs) for degradation or translational repression[1][2][5][7]. MicroRNAs are synthesized through transcription by RNA polymerase II, cleaved in the nucleus by Drosha to form precursor miRNAs, exported to the cytoplasm, and further processed by Dicer to their mature forms; these are then loaded into Argonaute proteins to form the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), mediating repression of target mRNAs[2][3][7]. While miRNAs regulate diverse cellular processes—including cell differentiation, proliferation, survival, and development[6]—no specific biological role, disease association, or drug interaction for MIR4678 is currently reported[1].
