Overview

MicroRNA 4687 (miR-4687, also known as hsa-mir-4687 or MIR4687) is a small, non-coding RNA molecule that regulates gene expression post-transcriptionally. It functions by binding to complementary sequences in the 3' untranslated regions of target mRNAs, leading to mRNA degradation or translational inhibition[4][5]. Recent research identified miR-4687-3p as upregulated in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) both in tissue and serum relative to healthy controls. Functional studies demonstrate that miR-4687-3p promotes proliferation, invasion, and migration of lung cancer cells, and its downregulation suppresses these processes. These findings suggest it acts as an oncogenic microRNA in NSCLC. Pathway analyses of predicted gene targets suggest involvement of miR-4687-3p in TGF-β signaling and postsynaptic specialization, further implicating it in cancer biology. Serum levels of miR-4687-3p show potential as a non-invasive diagnostic biomarker for NSCLC[1]. There are no known drugs that directly target this microRNA, but it represents a potential therapeutic and diagnostic target in oncology.
